New at INATECH

As of June 1, 2025, Prof. Dr. Rebekka Volk has joined INATECH – the Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering at the University of Freiburg – as Professor of Sustainability Assessment of Technical Systems. Through her interdisciplinary research, she aims to help shape technical, industrial, and urban systems to be more sustainable, while developing concrete solutions to some of today’s most pressing challenges.

In the interview, Prof. Volk offers fascinating insights into her research, discusses creative solution approaches developed in collaboration with engineers, natural scientists, and architects – and explains why she finds engaging with students particularly inspiring. She also shares what excites her about Freiburg and which issues concern her beyond the world of research.
