The Faculty of Engineering welcomes delegation from Nagoya University

Intensification of cooperation in energy research and exchange of students and young scientists.

On September 25, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg welcomed a delegation from Nagoya University. The long-standing partnership between the two universities is based on a university-wide cooperation agreement signed in 2014, which forms the basis for numerous joint projects. Historically, however, the connection between Freiburg and Nagoya can be traced back to the 1950s.

The aim of the current visit was to intensify cooperation in the field of energy research. During subject-specific discussions, potential areas of cooperation in research and in the exchange of students and young scientists were identified.

The delegation from Nagoya University consisted of Prof. Jun Onoe, Prof. Hideki Tomita, Prof. Tomoaki Yamada, Roland Berkemeier, and Yuriko Nishizaki. The Faculty of Engineering was represented by faculty assistant Dr. Rainer Giersiepen, Prof. Oliver Ambacher, Prof. Sonia Dsoke, and Dr. Mirko Schäfer. The exchange was organized by Ms. Kathrin Jehle from the International Office.

The University of Freiburg and Nagoya University are thus continuing their successful partnership and strengthening international networking in research and teaching.
