This award recognizes outstanding contributions by early career investigators in the area of embedded, real-time, and cyber-physical systems. The award was established in 2017 by the Association of Computing Machinery’s (ACM) Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems (SIGBED) to annually cite outstanding individuals, who have obtained their PhD less than 8 years ago, for their contributions to the field.
Marco Zimmerling joined the Department of Computer Science at University Freiburg as a Full Professor in April 2022. His research interests are in the area of cyber-physical systems with a special focus on wireless embedded systems. Recent years have seen a staggering growth in low-power wireless connectivity and the number of embedded devices, enabling pervasive sensing and actuation at unprecedented resolution and scale. Marco Zimmerling and his team design, build, and analyze new wireless embedded systems that are provably dependable, to support mission- and safety-critical applications (e.g., industrial automation), and sustainable by design, to meet the demand for a trillion new embedded devices in an eco-friendly way.
