ERC Synergy Grant for Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Quay

Energy-efficient mobile networks of the future

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Quay, Head of the Freiburg Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid-State Physics (Fraunhofer IAF) and Professor at the Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering (INATECH) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Freiburg, has been awarded an ERC Synergy Grant for the project DISRUPT. The goal is to reduce the energy consumption of future mobile networks by up to 50%—a crucial contribution to sustainable 5G and 6G technologies.

The project is funded with approximately ten million euros and brings together experts from Fraunhofer IAF, the University of Freiburg, TU Delft (Netherlands), and University College Dublin (Ireland).

Professor Rüdiger Quay stated, “It is a great honour that with the ERC Synergy Grant, the long-term devotion to deeply scaled RF semiconductor technologies in Europe is recognized. I am thankful to have such capable coworkers at Fraunhofer IAF, the University of Freiburg as well as in DISRUPT”.
